Why Nigerians should support Tinubu till 2031 – Babangida Aliyu

Former Niger State Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, says if Nigerians could tolerate former President Muhammadu Buhari for eight years, then President Bola Tinubu deserves the same patience until 2031.

Aliyu, who is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, made the statement during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday.

Reflecting on the nation’s political evolution, he noted that endurance has always been part of Nigeria’s democratic journey. “If we tolerated Buhari for eight years, we can try Tinubu till 2031,” he said.

He dismissed the idea that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any opposition party is currently strong enough to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to him, the opposition must first prove they have a better offer for Nigerians.

“The opposition needs to present something better, not just noise,” he said.

Aliyu also weighed in on the country’s zoning arrangement and the delicate nature of power rotation, warning that reckless defections and party disloyalty could wreck any gains made so far.

“You can’t be a bad leader and expect your successor to be an angel. They learn from what they see,” he warned.
