The night was lit with candles and heavy hearts as family, friends, and members of the Nigerian creative community gathered to honour the life of the late Ayo Aiyepeku, a talented photographer from Kogi State who tragically passed away in 2025. Born in 1997, Ayo’s life was cut short in a devastating manner, leaving behind a wave of pain, shock, and unanswered questions.
Ayo was a young man whose presence brought peace and joy to those around him. He was deeply loved, not just because of his humility but also because of his rare ability to forgive and let go. Those close to him recall how he never took offense when hurt and would even go as far as apologizing when he was not at fault. That kind of selflessness made him stand out as a rare soul in today’s world.
Beyond his character, Ayo was a man of immense creativity. As a photographer, he possessed extraordinary talent and vision, capturing not just images but emotions and untold stories. His works reflected his deep passion for art and his ability to freeze moments in time in the most unique way. He was a rising star in the Nigerian creative industry, one whose future was filled with promise.
The candlelight walk began at Ganaja Junction and ended at Phase II, with hundreds of mourners moving together in silence, their candles lighting the streets. Cars stood still as the procession passed, and market women watched in shock at the sea of people honouring Ayo’s memory. It was a moment that reminded everyone of the deep mark he left on the lives he touched.
Though gone too soon, Ayo Aiyepeku’s life and legacy will never be forgotten. He will always be remembered as a kindhearted son of Kogi, a young man with an uncommon spirit of humility, and a gifted creative whose work continues to speak even in his absence. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
