Chief Ncheta Mbazulike-Amechi, son of the late First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, has cautioned against politicizing the rift between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, warning that baseless accusations could undermine legislative stability and national development.
In a statement issued on Monday, titled “Let Akpabio Breathe,” Mbazulike-Amechi stressed that Nigeria is currently facing pressing economic and security challenges, making it imperative to focus on governance rather than distractions fueled by unsubstantiated claims.
While affirming that all cases of sexual harassment should be taken seriously, he questioned the timing and motive behind Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations, stating that waiting until a political dispute arose to make such claims raises concerns.
“The recent allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President are not only unfounded but appear to be a deliberate attempt to distract him from his crucial role in steering the Senate.”
Mbazulike-Amechi praised Akpabio’s leadership, noting that under his tenure, the Senate has provided legislative stability, sound policy direction, and effective oversight to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“This is not to dismiss or trivialize legitimate cases of sexual harassment, but in this instance, the allegations raise more questions than answers. If indeed there was wrongdoing, why wait until now to make these accusations?”
He urged Nigerians to reject politically motivated distractions and allow Akpabio to focus on his legislative duties, concluding:
“Nigeria cannot afford to be derailed by sensationalism. Let Senator Godswill Akpabio breathe.”
